Description
Striped red Christmas cookies specially made for dogs! No artificial dyes or ingredients. Makes about 18 cookies
Ingredients
3 cups oat flour or rolled oats finely blended into a flour consistency
1 large egg
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce (plain. just apples. no sugar or sugar additives).
Natural red coloring:
Beets, beet powder, cranberries, strawberries, or raspberries.
I use about 1/4 cup frozen cranberries + 3 frozen strawberries with a splash of water. Cook over med/high heat for about 5-10 minutes. Drain any excess liquid out and then blend it with an immersion blender (or similar). set aside to cool before adding to the dough.
Instructions
- Mix together oat flour, egg, and applesauce.
- Separate half of the dough into another small bowl
- Incorporate the natural coloring into one half of the dough, until the desired color is reached. *add extra oat flour to the dough if the coloring has too much liquid in it.
- Gently knead and roll out the dough separately
- Using a knife, cut lines lengthwise like the picture:
- Switch out every other strip so that the dough is striped red/white. Use a rolling pin to meld all the pieces together.
- Using cookie cutters of choice, cut out cookie shapes
- Bake in a preheated 350 F oven for about 5-8 minutes. (5 minutes for a chewier cookie, up to 10 minutes for extra crunchy)
Notes
Make your own oat flour by simply blending rolled oats in a blender, food processor, or spice grinder until it is a flour consistency! Yes, it’s that easy!
